Syphilis

Syphilis is an STI (sexually transmitted infection or STD). It is a bacterial infection that can infect the penis, anus, vagina and mouth. I causes a sore called a chancre on the penis, mouth, anus or vulva. Later it causes rashes and non-cancerous growths called "gummas".

You can make it much less likely to get syphilis by using a condom or dental dam? during sex, or, of course, by practicing monogamy with someone who isn't infected. Syphilis is treating with antibiotics prescribed by a doctor.
