Condom

A condom is a tube closed at one end meant to fit over the penis. It is meant to be used during sex as a method of contraception (birth control) and safer sex. Condoms, if functioning correctly and used correctly, greatly reduce pregnancy and most STIs. Condoms can be made from rubber, latex, polyurethane (a plastic), polyisoprene, or lamb intestine.

The latex barrier prevents skin-to-skin contact during sex (and other kinds of sex), which helps stop most STIs from spreading. The condom, if it stays on and you use it correctly, also greatly reduces semen from entering the vagina and therefor the uterus, preventing pregnancy.

Despite the airing of campaigns that say things like "No glove, no love." condoms are tricky to use correctly and diminish sexual sensations.

If you are allergic to latex you should use a polyurethane or polyisoprene condom.

Condoms only work properly if there are no holes in them. Once you are done using a condom, take it off your penis and throw it out. Do not reuse (or share) latex condoms.

Saran (plastic) wrap is not a handy substitute for a condom.
