VaginalCorona

The vaginal corona, old word hymen, is a fleshy ring inside a girl's or woman's vagina. Most people still call it a hymen, after the Greek god of marriage, but I like the newer term vaginal corona. I have read its purpose is to prevent diseases like bacterial infections from spreading further up the vagina, but I have also read it has no known purpose.

The vaginal corona is usually torn the first time a woman has sex. This causes the belief that if a woman has a torn vaginal corona she is not a virgin. This in turn causes the belief that if a woman has an intact vaginal corona she is a virgin, even if she's had other kinds of sex. I talk about virginity more in the article on virginity, but in short neither of these beliefs are accurate.

The corona can be torn from things other than sex, such as vigorous exercise or horseback riding. This doesn't mean you are no longer a virgin if that happens to you! Tearing of the corona, whether through sex or not, produces mild to moderate bleeding. (This is different from the bleeding from menstruation.) This is colloquially called "popping your cherry". Do not be alarmed.

If the vaginal corona covers your entire vaginal opening, this would block the exit of menstrual fluids, and you can get surgery to have a small hole put in.

A lot of men?/boys want to or prefer to have sex with girls with intact vaginal coronas because of the exquisite sexual pleasure, and/or wanting to be macho (or predatory?) and have sex with a girl before anyone else does. Some men might just want an indication a women's whole sexuality is devoted to them.

There is a myth (a massive myth) that having sex with a girl with an intact vaginal corona cures STIs, like chlamydia or HIV/AIDS. This is extremely disgusting and of course completely untrue. Having sex with a girl with an intact vaginal corona does not cure STIs or any other infection or disease, that is nonsensical. All this leads to is rape and spreading STIs to innocent virgins.

I don't have instructions here on stretching the corona to prepare for first-time sex.

I've heard of misinformation that the vaginal corona is harder and more painful to break the older the woman who's having sex is. This is an example of bad sex education? and why the world needs accurate sex education so badly. There's no rush to lose your virginity.
